## Before inventing

1. **Read** [RECENT.md](RECENT.md) and the relevant brick ledger (and *why we build* if you arrived cold).
2. **Cite** the held tip — do not rebuild what already stands.
3. **Layer, never delete.**
4. **Smoke.**

If the ledger already holds the ship, point at it. Put a handle on the doorway; do not pour a second foundation.
